Summer is here! This summer may look a little different than we are use to. I wanted to provide some fun summer activities that you children can do at home. So here is a fun summer senses scavenger hunt that they can do in your home and yard.
There is also a free printable download of this summer senses scavenger hunt at the bottom of this post.
Summer Senses Scavenger Hunt Activities
For this summer senses scavenger hunt, I wanted to make sure children explore all the sensory systems, not just the main 5.
Here are the fun things they can look for or do while exploring each sense. I have them divided by senses so you can talk about each one as you look for the items or complete the activity under each system.
- types of herbs
- pine needles
- fresh cut grass (if your child has seasonal allergies, you may want to skip this one)
- a popsicle
- a lime
- a dragonfly
- squirrel or chipmunk (add any small backyard animal to this list if you live in an area that does not have these animals)
- a flower
- a bird flying
- find a clover leaf
- ant crawling
- water trickling
- bugs buzzing
- frogs chirping
- birds singing
- tree moving in the wind
- play in the sand
- water in a stream or creek
- a smooth rock
- build with sticks
Move (Vestibular and Proprioception Senses)
