Summer is here! This summer may look a little different than we are use to. I wanted to provide some fun summer activities that you children can do at home. So here is a fun summer senses scavenger hunt that they can do in your home and yard.

There is also a free printable download of this summer senses scavenger hunt at the bottom of this post.

Summer Senses Scavenger Hunt Activities

For this summer senses scavenger hunt, I wanted to make sure children explore all the sensory systems, not just the main 5.

Here are the fun things they can look for or do while exploring each sense. I have them divided by senses so you can talk about each one as you look for the items or complete the activity under each system.

Smell

  • rain
  • types of herbs
  • pine needles
  • fresh cut grass (if your child has seasonal allergies, you may want to skip this one)

Taste

  • a popsicle
  • lemonade
  • a lime
  • watermelon

See

  • a dragonfly
  • butterfly
  • squirrel or chipmunk (add any small backyard animal to this list if you live in an area that does not have these animals)
  • a flower
  • a bird flying
  • find a clover leaf
  • ant crawling

Hear

  • water trickling
  • bugs buzzing
  • frogs chirping
  • birds singing
  • tree moving in the wind

Touch

  • play in the sand
  • water in a stream or creek
  • a smooth rock
  • build with sticks

Move (Vestibular and Proprioception Senses)

  • balance on a log
  • play in the mud
  • roll down a hill
  • play hide and go seek
