This Rice Cereal Porridge recipe is the perfect first food for baby! All you need to do is to make the powder and making the porridge is super easy!

When it’s time for baby to start solids, it’s natural for us to reach for rice. It’s a good choice too, since it’s easy digestible, has a very low risk of allergy and is neutral enough for baby’s palate.

6 months is the WHO-recommended age to start solids, and we’ve got the perfect recipe to begin with – rice cereal porridge or Arisi Kanji. It’s a single ingredient food, also known as a Stage 1 food. Here, we make our own homemade rice cereal powder and store it, so it’s always available to make your own homemade rice porridge for baby.

Making homemade baby cereal is very easy, all you need is the rice cereal powder and rice cereal porridge for babies can be made in a jiffy.

Ingredients:

Method to prepare the rice cereal :

1. Wash the rice thoroughly until the water runs clear. Drain and spread it thinly on a cotton cloth to air dry.
2. Now dry roast the rice in a heated pan for 4-5 minutes on low flame. Allow the rice to cool down .
3. Grind it to powder using a mixer grinder. Our rice cereal is ready. Store it in an airtight, clean glass jar and use as per need.

Method to prepare the porridge :

1. Take 2 teaspoon of the homemade rice cereal in a pan. Add 1 cup water to it. Whisk it well.
2. Now transfer the pan to gas top and allow the mix to boil and cook for about 7 minutes or until it thickens a bit.
3. Keep stirring continuously to make sure the porridge does not catch the bottom of the pan.
4. Put off the flame. Transfer the porridge to a sterilized dry bowl and serve to your baby. You may further dilute the porridge with breast-milk if desired.

When starting this porridge for your baby for the very first time, serve it in a slightly diluted form. Once the baby gets accustomed to shis food, you can make it thicker gradually.
