Egg cartons are great for junk modelling, and over the past few months we have been collecting lots of packaging and creating lots of things with them. One of the things we have been making is a family of egg carton sharks to go with the baby shark song. The baby shark song is still being sung by BB, to be fair we were singing it long before it became a viral hit, I learnt it back in 2004 while I was working in a summer camp.

Make sure you follow my junk modelling board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

To make your own egg carton shark you will need:

  • Egg carton
  • Scissors
  • Paint
  • Glue
  • Googly eyes

Each egg carton packaging is very different for each brand that makes them. We used the middle segment that stick up and the lid.

Cut out the middle segments and paint them (you’ll need two per shark).

While they are drying, cut out the fin and tail from the lid, then paint them.

Once they are all dried, glue the two segments together. Add the fin and tail. I found it easier to cut a slit into the end I was going to glue the tail in. It made it slightly more stable.

The final details for your egg carton sharks are to stick on the googly eyes and add a mouth.
